Condensed

I recently re-evaluated my project. I have managed to condense it into a few paragraphs and images.

I am interested in how everyday objects are used, and how this use can be altered to create interesting, and fantastical scenarios.

Everyday life is hard, we all have to do things we don’t want to do. We experience stress, guilt and anger as a result of things that are beyond our control. We think nothing of taking a weekend away, or booking time off for a holiday, but in times as stressful as these, do we need more than just a holiday? What if you could temporarily escape your own reality?

My project aims to facilitate a change of identity by subverting the mundane use of everyday objects. When engaging with the products the user’s routine is changed, and they can, for one moment, swap identity to become an action hero, a film noir star, or a kung-fu fighter.

After Tutorial

Hmm, I just re-read what I wrote on my last Blog- apologies for the horriffic grammar, that's what you get for being hungover and sat in a gallery for 6 hours thinkng about the same thing over and over, and over.

Anyway, I had a tutorial with Laura, the main issues and questions raised were:

Do I want to exhibit a series of prototypes, or a few finished pieces as part of my exhibition?

-I think I already know the answer to this, because in order for my products to be used and tested seriously, they must be to a certain standard of finish- I plan to spend time making them look presentable, and developing them as much as possible before they are tested.

User Group, I.e who is it?

-I decided that the user group is anyone who wants to swap identity, Laura suggested that the kind of person who wants to be an action hero will be a very different kind of person from one who wanted to be in a Film Noir. I plan to look into this by researching the genre's target audiences, although this will be more of a side project, as I don't plan to base the development of the designs on my findings in any way.

Laura also suggested that I film my VIVA, as I present badly (which is true) I think that a film would work better than a presentation anyway, as a lot of the products I have made are meant to create an action, if I made a film I use videos with a voiceover.

On another note, I have finished the Kung Fu drawers! Video of them working is coming soon. The plan now is to make the foam door, adn then send them both, and the Film Noir lampshade off for testing.
